There are two biblical truths that are linked, and by many not quite accepted. And They are that the world is completely, thoroughly fallen, and that we will not entirely be at peace until we leave the earth.
This is probably morbid to read, especially through secular eyes, but it is doctrinally true. Our God is merciful enough to give of Himself to us as much as we are willing, and He makes our pilgrimage in life immeasurably more happy, yet we will not be free of our sin soaked skin ‘till Kingdom come.
This means I will never be able to stop fighting myself, and I will probably always be of two minds on almost everything. I believe that the Lord and His Spirit change us fundamentally and totally, but I know that only so much can be done while we’re still on earth. And aside from ourselves we have the world, with its own broken nature, and others as broken as we are. This is our lack of peace.
You may not think it reading this, but I truly am an optimist. I think it’s impossible not to be in light of the promises of God. What I’m saying is that this world is a sad place, full of hurting people, and there’s nothing for you here.
The best that the world has to offer comes from God and His interaction with us, so pursue that. Don’t dig around in this place looking for something that the Lord can’t wait to show you. And hold on tight to the hope we profess: that because of our selfless God, we will one day be in Paradise. Peace at last.
